I don’t even know where to begin.
Let me just say, before I go off on a tangent and this becomes a book instead of a blog entry that I have learned more about “growing up” and being “healthy and happy” in my “womanhood” from this woman more than I have from anyone close to my age. It could be because I’ve spent a lot of time in her basement. It could be because, in a lot of ways, she’s been where I’ve been. It could be because when God made this solider, He sent her out for more than just the battlefields she’s encounter in the U.S. Army.
Retired Lt. Colonel Rosalyn Denise Thompson-Blackwell is indeed a soldier.
I met Roz many years ago when I choreographed a dance for her to do with her young daughter. After the dance was complete, we continued our relationship and I became her personal trainer. Roz has her own gym in her basement so I’d come over EARLY on Saturday mornings and she’d be ready to go. As a soldier, you can imagine the amount of discipline she already had. Roz is also a comer dancer and runner. I’d get there and she had already done her running. She’d give me her run down for the week of what she had done and we’d just go in. Then I’d sit and talk to her for hours sometimes about life. Roz is the clienr who called me when I was out of town to tell me she was working out or tell me she was mad about missing her sessions because she was traveling.
And when tragedy struck, I watched my client and, now my friend, go through the unthinkable. What I saw was everything she had told me and taught me come into play. I’ve never seen someone so young with so much class, faith, poise and determination to take what was wrong and make it into a right for others. The Miles Blackwell Learning Center is more than a place. It’s everything. It really is everything.
I feel emotional so I’m going to wrap this up.
Health is not just about being able to have enough endurance to finish a workout. How are you going to finish life….in all aspects? This woman is healthy in life and can run a million miles. That’s a win win.
I love you, Mama! Thank you for helping me transition from a kitten into a Black Panther!!! 😊❤️ You make the 40’s look AMAZING!!!
