Change Is Good: A @ManitobaHarvest Hemp Heart Bites Review

I love food.

I love snacks.

I just love to eat.

So when my body started acting “funny,” the LAST thing I wanted to believe was that it had anything to do with my diet. I’ve been on a plant based diet for over a decade. What could I take out other than air that was going to make things better? 80% of the population already feels like I’m going to die because of my “lack of protein” (because you’ve heard that before, right?) and now I have to start eliminating stuff to get my body back order. Good grief. I’ve had to change my ENTIRE eating game which includes LOTS of snacks since I am on the go all of the time.

Hemp Heart Bites

In comes Manitoba Harvest’s Hemp Heart Bites: easy to transport, rich in plant protein, void of all of the things I am supposed to be avoiding, filling and did I mention how delicious they were?

So, the truth is, these do NOT taste like M & M’s. If that’s what you’re expecting you are going to be super disappointed. I have already admitted that I have ninja like tastebuds and I can handle what my non plant based eaters can’t but I, honestly, think these are good. Hemp can come on a little strong (actually the first time I drank a hemp protein shake, I was NOT in love) but hemp products have come a LONG way and this is probably the best one I’ve ever tasted. They are chewy and crunchy to me (I don’t know how to explain that) but the texture is good and makes me slow down and chew.

I am usually between fitness centers in the morning running between training clients and teaching classes so I keep a bag of Hemp Heart Bites in my car when I know it may be an hour or two before I can get to a meal. One serving (sometimes I only eat a half which is about four pieces) which is 230 calories, has TEN grams of protein, ten grams of Omega 3 and 6 (brain power!!), three grams of fiber and a good amount of magnesium, iron, zinc and phosphorus. These are sweetened with organic evaporated cane sugar and organic brown rice but seeing as that I am in dark chocolate rehab, I can take a few grams of sugar with my protein (Sometimes you just have to make the best decision).

Having snacks like this is making my food transitions A LOT easier. I’m a creature of habit and this has been hard but it’s always great to try new foods to go along with my new eating regimen, my new schedule (school has started back and so twe are all over the place) and my increased work load (new facilities, new formats, extra classes).
