I’m still at it.
The madness that is my busy, physically challenging life still continues. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I LOVE being active. The stiffness, soreness, constant pile of sweaty, smelly clothes and not being able to stay up past 9:00 P.M.? Not so much. (Well, if you know me then you know my bedtime has been 8:30 or 9:00 p.m. since I came out of the womb but I digress.) People ask me EVERY DAY (literally), how I do it. How do I have the ENERGY to teach multiple classes, train clients, get to dance practice, write blogs and make it to Sprouts to stack up on $.77 avocados and $.88/lb grapes?
The right attitude and the right fuel.
Last month, I told you all about some products I was using from Gnarly Nutrition (read post here). I’ve been using their Gnarly Pump (a pre-workout energizer) and Gnarly Vegan Feast (a meal replacement). They are STILL staples in my 4:30 A.M. gym bag. I drink the Gnarly Pump when I’m done leaving one gym so that I’m ready to go twenty minutes later when I hit the next gym to work out. Like I mentioned before, I’m not jittery or jumpy or feeling like I’ve had too much cake. I do, however, feel like I have a little something “extra” to put in some work. Call it the placebo effect if you will but I, literally, feel a “release” in my muscles, like they are able to do more. I feel pretty good about it too because Gnarly Nutrition is ALL NATURAL. Did I mention drinking this (and knowing I’m going to have it as I head to the gym) has helped me cut down on my Starbucks habit? True story.

I’m still mixing the Gnarly Vegan Feast in the car after my workout with almond milk. I’ve actually tried it with coconut milk in the past few weeks (yummy) and blending it in my BlendTec with a banana and cinnamon and drinking it before teaching (running late and needed something light but satisfying before I went jumping around somewhere). I know people tend to confuse “protein shakes” and “meal replacements” and, in my mind, they aren’t the same. I also “don’t” just drink them after working out. In my busyness (confession), I can forget to eat and that’s dangerous for health reasons and because I have a history of anorexia. It’s SUPER important that I keep things like Gnarly Vegan Feast around so I can always have a meal option; a quick, nourishing, healthy meal option.
I’m getting ready to go on five out of town trip in four weeks. My daughter asked me what I was going to eat (in case you didn’t know, traveling while vegan can be a challenge sometimes). I told her, “I’m taking my powders with me.” And it’s true. And because all of these trips require me to do some type of physical activity (I mean like crazy women activity), I’ll be packing my Gnarly Pump as well.
