Healthy Huntsville and Piloxing With The City!

Although I have been teaching Piloxing in Huntsville for three and a half years, a lot of people here in Huntsville, Alabama still haven’t experienced the excitement of this awesome workout! But the buzz has definitely been out on the street. Last year, I was contacted by Kevin Ready, one of the coordinators of Healthy Huntsville, a city-wide health initiative led by Mayor Tommy Battle, to teach a Piloxing class as one of the free activities to share for citizens to be able to come out and enjoy with their family and friends and get moving. I even got the opportunity to participate in a press conference and teach a little Piloxing to Mayor Battle himself!

I was more than happy when Kevin contacted me this year and asked if I’d like to participate. I’ll be teaching Piloxing tomorrow in Big Springs Park tomorrow (near the rock fountain) at 10:00 A.M. Come on out and enjoy a great class!

But it’s so much bigger than that.

Did you know that Alabama is the second most obese state in the country?

For four months Healthy Huntsville provides activities for us (me included because I haven’t done a great job of getting as involved as I could!) to participate in such as The Double Helix Dash 5K/Walk (coming up next week) and the Mayor’s Bike ride. There are free workouts in the park every Saturday during this time offered by different fitness facilities/professionals every week and other exciting events run simultaneously with Healthy Huntsville such as the opening of our Farmer’s Markets and Rocket City Yoga Week.

Stay con20140404-114304.jpgnected to what’s happening through the Healthy Huntsville website and Facebook. And, if you can’t make it out tomorrow, make plans to attend the big kickoff on Saturday, May 18th.

Or you can come by the University Fitness Center and rock Piloxing with me whenever you like. 🙂
