Oooooh weeeee! New York gave me LIFE!!
Unless you call getting up before dawn in the bitter cold to catch the train to go to yoga “exciting.” 🙂 But I caught the train all over Manhattan. And I got to see Under Armour shut down Grand Central Station!
I got to see my girl Jami which just made my entire week and I got to meet Natalie Uhling and Curtis Williams.
I then caught the train over to the Village and took a yoga class at the Integrative Yoga Institute and then walked over to Chelsea to the Breathing Project (which I why I was there in the first place) to take a lecture from Amy Matthews and another yoga class. I was able to stop at Whole Foods (if you know me you KNOW I thought I had died and went to heaven) and get some lunch, take what was going on around me and feel “life” which is something I just hadn’t been feeling.
Unknown to most, my yoga teacher and I had decided to basically cut my yoga practice. I live on the corner of high anxiety and perfectionism avenues and it was starting to destroy my yoga practice because it had become about “doing” instead of “being.” Yes, it seems crazy to have done three yoga classes in a day after not having a real practice for over a month but I felt FANTASTIC. And I realized how much I missed it. And I realized how to put myself back into my practice. Because my practice is about me.
I felt that Northern girl in me, especially when that cold air hit my face. 🙂 I remembered when I HAD to walk everywhere and catch the train. I started thinking about how far I had come and how my life had just changed, not in a better or worse way but just different. I realized that I could go right back to my instincts. I knew how to walk fast, hold on to my purse and not look like a tourist. Well, except for when I was taking pictures. For my kids, of course. 🙂
I realized how BLESSED I was when I was able to meet my sister friend Eileen for dinner. I have new friends. I was able to eat what my body now loves. Thank God for dietary changes and a new lifestyle. I was able to realize how BIG Under Armour is and thank God they have accepted me into their tribe. Thank God for increase, favor and opportunity!
And now it’s time for me to take what I know and walk into a new season. Because I’ve been down enough. I’ve been stuck in my story enough. I’ve been discouraged enough. I’m ready to do a new thing. I’ve got goals.
And first up, training for this half marathon.
