Half Marathon Week: Election Day Workout

I don’t know about you but when I was standing in those lines today, I was THANKFUL for the strength in my legs and the Assam Breeze black tea in my cup.  I was even more thankful to live in a country where ALL walks of life have the opportunity to share their voice and their opinion on what they feel like matters.  It was so refreshing to see us all standing together, maybe not for one candidate, but for ONE purpose.  We love our country and we want what’s best.  I thought of my great-grandmother Nellie Woods who, while in her sixties, marched the Edmund Pettus bridge in Selma, Alabama (ironically, I was raised in Chicago and moved to Alabama when I was almost 30 and then didn’t visit Selma until years later) for my right to be in that line.  And my strength to do this half-marathon that I keep trying to talk myself out of every day.  She, and so many other great people, not just African Americans and not just women, have opened doors and opportunities for us to be strong and stand on what we believe in and want for our children and grandchildren.  Today means a lot to me.  I hope you exercise your right to vote.

And I hope you exercise your right to exercise too.

President Obama is from Illinois and Governor Romney is from Massachusetts.  Illinois has 20 electoral votes.  Massachusetts has 11.  To date, there have been 44 presidents.  Enjoy this workout so you can stand in that line (smile) and stand strong for future generations.  My kids (and your kids and your neighbors’ kids) are counting on you.

44 jumping jacks
44 squats
11 burpees
20 mountain climbers

44 jumping jacks
44 lunges
11 burpees
20 mountain climbers

44 jumping jacks
44 calf raises
11 burpees
20 mountain climbers

44 jumping jacks
44 donkey kicks
11 burpees
20 mountain climbers

And, for your state, find out how many electoral votes you all have and finish with that many burpees! 🙂
Alabama has 9!

Thanks for this workout! I admit, I do a ton of cardio on the elliptical but not calesthenics…they kinda scare me, LOL, since I’m always afraid I’m not doing them correctly and I’ll hurt myself…but, that changes today! Adding this workout into my daily routine!

    blessings,
