In the spirit of his commitment to loving and giving to others, I had the privilege and honor to partner with Miles’ parents, Rosalyn and Derrick Blackwell and the Miles Blackwell Foundation to throw Miles an awesome birthday party filled with just a few tears but plenty of love, hugs, fellowship and music that brought a smile to our face and we remembered and celebrated him and came together for a purpose.
Rosalyn spoke to the crowd about how she and Derrick started this foundation with Miles’ college fund. They have provided over 3,000 meals to children at a local community center, are helping families with multiple needs such as rent and utilities, the premise being not a handout but a bridge because sometimes we all just need a hand to help us up to the next level.
These funds are also helping provide scholarships to thirteen deserving students of Athens High School class of 2013, Miles’ graduating class. Five scholarships will be continued to be given each year after. It was a challenge for us to become involved in our community and in the lives of each other.
Special thanks to Love, Louise Photography , Makarios Events and the University Fitness Center for their assistance in making this fundraiser a success.
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
